Red Bank Public Library

Attendees: Suzanne Viscomi, Ben Marshall, JT Pierson, Gene Horowitz, Elias Ayala, Enrico Ciabattoni, Ann Ciabattoni

Meeting called to order at 7:05 pm.

Review of Spring,2013 raffle results. Foundation netted about $1,500 - $2,000.
This was significantly less than the previous year. Suggested ways to improve results

Review of Summer, 2013 Soccer Camps. 19 girls and 18 boys participated. We had a coach from Brookdale for the boys’ camp with RBR varsity soccer players assisting. Girls were coached by an assistant soccer coach from DeSalles University who is also an assistant coach with the NJ Olympic Development Program for women’s soccer. The kids seem to really enjoy it. We provided them with t-shirts that said RBMSAF 2013 Sports. Nice. As part of the camp and to put their new skills to work, arrangements have been made for the boys to play a scrimmage match this Saturday, August 24 at 9:00 AM at Count Basie Park against a Middletown travel team.

Question about the school’s soccer teams this year. Coaches are Adam Merklinger for the girls and John Adranovitz for the boys. There is a question as to whether there will be assistant coaches or not. If so, then there may be an issue funding the Track team. That cost is about $7,000 to cover costs of transportation, coaches and officials. This may be something for the Foundation to fund this year.
It is important that the Foundation have specific articulated fundraising goals such as Track Team or warm up gear for the athletes. We should take advantage of nights when the school community is together to address the crowd about our mission and our goals. This will be on next month’s agenda for discussion.

Ideas for 2013/14 School year fundraisers

Dress Down Day – have the kids and teachers pay a fixed fee to wear comfortable clothes to school on a specific day. JT explained that a fixed fee has been established by the school for this type of event. This must be booked on the school calendar.
ACTION ITEM – review school calendar for the year to schedule dress down day.

50/50 – this is an easy way to raise funds and popular with people. Foundation should run these whenever we have a large event or school population is together. Suggested doing it for Back To School Night on 9/18 and 9/19.

    Sell RBMS imprinted gear/products.

Count Basie Cup – This annual soccer match between RBMS and Charter School takes place under the lights at Count Basie Park. This year’s date is Friday, October 11. There are 2 fundraisers going on that night – the concession stand and a 50/50. The schools take turns running one or the other each year. Last year, the 5th grade was the beneficiary of the concession stand proceeds which helped fund their field trip.

Other ideas for the Basie Cup – business sponsorships in the way of banners for the field and a text to give program for people to donate through their cell phones.

Purchase a desirable item like the latest iPad and run a raffle for it. Have tickets printed in books to boost sales.

Dinner Dance – Did well last year. Needs a chairman (Gene Horowitz volunteered)
Have parents make the food, hire a great DJ, hold the event in the gym. Last year it was a Friday night in the January or February. Discussion followed about the best time of year to hold this event but no decision reached. Must see school calendar.

Other ideas – Pizza Bingo night, Fall or Spring Plant sale, Invitational Basketball Tournament with other are middle schools who pay an entry fee to play as well as charge admission for viewers. 5 v 5 or 3 v 3 for cross court games. 3 game guarantee. For both Boys and Girls teams.
