December 12, 2013

Red Bank Public Library

Attendance: Michael Ballard, Kristine Giglio, David Prown, Kelsey Richardson, Rose Sestito, Enrico Ciabattoni, Ann Ciabattoni

President’s Report:
Fundraising: The Dinner to Go fundraiser during the Parent/Teacher conferences made $775. We also raised money through a 50/50 at the AYF games in fall. Foundation received $300 – Thank you Christine and John Giglio. When added to the soccer jersey raffle from the Fall which made $305 we have reached a total of $1,480 – enough to purchase the defibrillator for our away games. The price for the equipment has been confirmed.

We also have enough cash on hand to cover the budget shortfall that Dr. Morana had asked the Foundation for last Spring. The specific areas that this shortfall will cover were not disclosed. In future that information will be requested prior to a commitment from the Foundation.

Middle School Basketball camp update – This camp which was to be offered through the RBR basketball coaches was not approved. Reason given – it was billed as a pre-season camp and practices had already started.

Basketball game field trips to Monmouth U. and Brookdale C C – These trips are on hold waiting for the insurance question to be answered by the Board of Education Business Administrator.

Wrestling Team – AD DelPra offered to bring RBR teams to RBMS and show the kids the various varsity sports offered at the high school.

Idea to host exhibition games by RBR players in volleyball, field hockey, cheerleading, lacrosse so the Middle School population can see what these sports are about and if they might like to try them in high school. Question – when to schedule? Winter or Spring. Question – who will come to MS sports events this winter if there are no afterschool activities due to the loss of the 21
st Century grant?

A Track and Field Clinic is being offered by the RBR coach, Mike Bland. 3 nights/$8 per night or $20 for all 3. Foundation would help with underwriting if kids are interested and need financial aid. Question was raised about how to pick the candidates to participate in the clinic – ask coaches, AD, gym teachers? A flyer was made for the kids to pick up forms from the front office. Proposal flyer was submitted to Superintendent for review. Waiting for response. Coach Bland, who has galvanized the T&F program at the high school, has offered to work with the Middle School kids in whatever way he can.

Reiterated the idea of awarding the best boy and girl scholar/athletes (best GPA for varsity team player regardless of 6
th, 7th or 8th grade) each year at the end of the year sports banquet courtesy of the Foundation. Prize under consideration would be $100 in RB bucks for each child. Also thought to have a plaque installed in the school with winners’ names engraved each year for posterity.

Exploring the need for activity insurance for Foundation events.

Other fundraising ideas – Need specific monetary goals and program/equipment behind each goal. One fundraising idea was to sell Organo Gold Coffee. A brochure was passed around. Reaction was lukewarm to this idea.

Dinner Dance – last year we hosted a dinner dance in January to raise money. The tentative date is January 17 – asked for ideas. This is 10 days earlier than last year. Should the date be moved to give us more time to get the big year end raffle underway so we can sell tickets at the dance? Consensus was yes.

Raffle drawing – need a date in June for the raffle drawing.

Prizes – need volunteers to solicit prizes for the raffle. A list of last year’s prizes was circulated.

There will be a second meeting – an information session held on December 23 at La Esquina from 6:30 – 7:30 pm. The purpose is simply to reiterate what occurred at this meeting and answer any questions people may have about the Foundation, our mission and activities, in case they were unable to come to our previous meetings.

Next meeting will be January 16.
